‘Vada Pav’ girl not arrested, no case registered: Delhi Police respond to viral video

NEW DELHI: A video circulating on social media depicted a vada pav vendor seemingly being ‘arrested’ by law enforcement in Delhi. However, the Delhi police clarified on Saturday that the woman was not taken into custody and no charges were filed against her.
Chandrika Dixit, known as the ‘vada pav’ girl, operates a food stand in outer Delhi’s Mangolpuri neighborhood, according to authorities.
Recently, Dixit shared a video on social media that captured a dispute between herself and local residents while she was hosting a community feast near her food stall.
The feast attracted a large crowd, which caused traffic congestion in the vicinity, as stated by officials.
Local residents filed complaints to the police regarding the traffic disruption in the area.
In response to the complaints, a police team arrived at the scene and escorted Dixit to the police station.
“When there was a huge crowd at her cart and a complaint was made against her, at that time she was detained for some time. There was no case registered against the vada pav seller, and she was not arrested,” the police said.
